Relationship: Colleague

Location: Glasgow

Tribute:From when I got to know Tony, because he was able to take a role on in my team, I was hugely taken by his character, ambition and his honesty. He’d already survived a life many couldn’t ever contemplate living with by the time he came to us. The work he’d done to survive was nothing short of miraculous. This was how I knew Tony’s determination to beat the odds; prove nay-sayers wrong; speak the truth and live his truth was unrivalled. He spearheaded changes which he would never see the benefit of. He looked after himself and his family long after others had deemed them too old or worthy of life long care. He was truly selfless and truly impressive. My favourite memories of him always centre around our chats making tea in various kitchens in a variety of venues across the country. We both loved tea. And used it to break up our day and take a breath. It was here we reflected informally on things he had been at or I had or he’d done and was thinking about. I always agreed when he asked, if things can’t change for weans then what’s this all about. We often contemplated what change could or would be. When we’d know it was the real deal that was coming and why it would look and feel different. He has left a remarkable mark on my life and I am devastated he isn’t able to see out the life he had worked so hard to get.
