Welcome to the Shine a Light Project. Created because the care experienced community is amazing. We have incredible strengths and we achieve extraordinary things despite all odds. We are the living embodiment of the word resilience

We also face unprecedented challenges from society itself, in addition to our life circumstances. For many in this community, this can make it harder for us to thrive. Sadly, some of us even die young. We believe that every person in our community who has died, deserves the dignity of being remembered and recognised for who they were, and how they enriched the lives of the people around them. We are often a community that is hidden from the understanding of society, and yet, we will not allow ourselves to be forgotten.

This is why this project is creating this space of remembrance. To commemorate the lives of those from our community that have been lost to us. They deserve to be remembered, respected and honoured.

The need for this project, speaks very clearly, of the need for systemic change for all of us. In honouring the lives and memories of the people who have died, together, we will strengthen the voice for change. Our [parallel] greatest hope is that the legacy of those who have died will be transformed into a powerful voice. Showing society and the government that change and compassion are desperately needed, and attention must be paid to our stories to point the way to a better future for us all.
